UNO Health Care Department
UNO’s Health Department is committed to the well-being of the Hispanic community. We believe that healthy communities begin with healthy families. As an organization, we have been involved in a variety of outreach campaigns that bring resources to our communities. Below are descriptions of our most recent outreach efforts. UNO also hosts an annual Health Fair. Please visit us again in the near future for more information or contact UNO at 312.432.6301.
As a satellite office of the Family Care Program, UNO connects families with a Health Insurance Program for children under 18 years of age and their parents. This program covers doctor visits, hospital stays, prescription drugs, and vision care. Children can qualify for ALL Kids regardless of their economic class, legal status, or health condition. To qualify for the adult Family Care programs, parents must be U.S. citizens and meet immigration requirements. With ALL Kids, children will be able to get the care they need, when they need it. If your family cannot afford private health insurance, ALL Kids may be the answer for you.
Breast Cancer Awareness
Breast cancer is a serious disease that affects the Latino community disproportionately. Brest cancer can be treated and cured through early detection. UNO offers a variety of workshops about breast cancer, as well as resources on how to obtain free or reduced cost screenings at partner agencies. Understanding Menopause
Menopause is a natural stage of a woman’s life. UNO offers workshops in Spanish covering the effects of menopause, perimenopause, what happens to a woman’s heart and bones during the process, and what role Hormone Replacement Therapy plays. Workshops are held throughout Chicago at a variety of schools, local churches, and community-based organizations.
